The Private Security Governance Observatory seeks to empower civil society organisations (CSOs) to effectively engage at the national and international level, promoting norms, good practices and standards for private security governance.
The Observatory focuses on developing the capacity and empowering CSO networks across Africa to support a more effective oversight and accountability of the private security sector. The Observatory network has over 60 members, representing 18 African countries. The 2018 Observatory Annual Conference will be the first pan-African Observatory event, bringing together member CSOs from across Africa to exchange on private security governance challenges and good practices.
The 2018 Observatory Annual Conference will take place on the margins of the 2018 ACCA General Assembly (GA) to build on lasts year’s active engagement and recommendations from both ACCA and Observatory network members to further exploring future collaboration opportunities. The Observatory Annual Conference as a side event will bring diversity and foster exchanges towards the empowerment of CSOs, the building of strong CSO networks, and lesson sharing with the goal of enabling CSOs to contribute to effectively monitoring and accountability of the private security sector.
