Dear ACCA community,

It is my pleasure to announce and introduce to you the new Projects Coordinator of the ACCA: Mr Guillian Koko who joined the ACCA on 02 May 2018. Guillain will take the lead on ACCA’s substantive work on free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) and access to remedy. In addition, Guillain will be assisting the ACCA in playing a more prominent role in terms of business and human rights issues on the continent, and ACCA’s desire to support African communities and individuals whose human rights are adversely impacted daily by the activities of corporations, both multi-national and domestic. Bio: Guillain Koko

Guillain Koko is a Human Rights Lawyer and Social Justice Activist, with extensive professional background in programme management, coordinating research, policy and advocacy campaigns as well as fundraising . He is well-versed in the field of access to remedy for victims before Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and familiar with international and regional human rights treaties, the UN system, and international legal frameworks relevant to corporate accountability, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. 


His key strengths include: diligence, dedication, creativity, highly motivated, legal research, drafting and reporting, interviewing, litigation, problem solving, efficient time management and organisation skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills – with community, donors and third parties.

Guillain was born on 26-11-1978 in Bukavu, in the South Kivu, the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is married and father to three children: two girls and one boy. He holds an LLB in Public Law from the Catholic University of Bukavu (in DRC) and an LLM in Human Rights and Democratization, from the University of Pretoria. He is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. The topic of his thesis is: ''A legal analysis of the Rights to Development as it relates to Corporate Accountability: case study Transnational companies operating in post conflict zones in the DRC''.

Prior to his appointment at the ACCA, he worked as a Program Coordinator at Church World Service (CWS-Africa, in Pretoria), PASSOP (Cape Town), and Strong roots (Bukavu, DRC).

Koko speaks fluent English, French, Kiswahili, Lingala and basic Portuguese.
