Latest developments

My name is Michel YOBOUE, I am the Executive Director of the civil society organisation Groupe de Recherche et de Plaidoyer sur les Industries Extractive (GRPIE) based in Cote d’Ivoire.

Our work is centred on advocacy for a democratic, transparent, and responsible management of natural resources for sustainable socio-economic development in Cote d’Ivoire and the rest of the world. GRPIE is a member of the International Coalition “Publish What you Pay” (PWYP) and a member of the Platform of Civil Society Organisations of the Union of Flueve Manor on the rights and governance of natural resources.

It is a great honour for the GRPIE to be part of the founding members of the ACCA. Today, we are delighted to participate in the work of the ACCA through our status of Co-Chairperson within the Steering Committee. During our mandate we plan to pay close attention to access to remedy, as it is vital to support communities and individuals whose rights have been adversely affected by the activities of business in Africa. In time to come, Africa needs to become a continent where human rights are protected and respected by business and governments, a region where communities adversely affected by human rights violations can have adequate and effective access to recourse.

It is our wish that ACCA becomes a powerful platform uniting active African NGOs working towards the strengthening of corporate accountability of business in Africa and beyond. For example, in the face of social and environmental destruction brought on as a result of businesses activities, the voice of ACCA must be heard so that sustainable solutions may be found to these issues.
